This Sunday, March 1st is the seventh annual Word War Poetry Slam. Hosted by the incomparable Rebecca Dupas, this Baltimore tradition sponsored by The Baltimore Scene features a winner take all $700 cash prize to the poet who survives three rounds of scrutiny from a panel of judges which have included other top poets, lyric lovers and literary types (yours truly has even been a judge).
Though the slam usually takes place in December, it was rescheduled to March so that Baltimore Scene CEO Chin-yer could deal with some health issues. But she’s back, out and about and ready to give some lucky poet a very nice piece of cash (along with an escort out of the building). Another change for Word War 7 in addition to the date is the venue — this year’s slam will be held at Echo Lounge, located at 9835 Liberty Road in Randallstown. Doors open at 7 p.m, and tickets are $12.
