Organic Soul Tuesdays. Anyone who has ever had any exposure to local independent artists probably has at least one fond memory of this weekly venue. Much more than an open mic, OST was a cultural institution in this city almost from the time it was born in 2001. From the many years it spent on West Saratoga Street in “da basement” at the 14K Cabaret Club to its last location at Eden’s Lounge on Eager Street, OST was home to many Baltimore greats from vocalists and poets to rappers and musicians (The OST house band was a legendary collective of musical talents.) It has even hosted national artists like Raheem DeVaughn and Jill Scott.
The last official OST was on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 on Saratoga Street, and though OST is gone in the sense that it is no longer a weekly venue, it has never been forgotten. And if you’ve been fiending for a Tuesday night fix of artistically pleasing entertainment, tonight is your lucky night, because OST is having a reunion that you definitely should be a part of.
“The Organic Soul Tuesdays Reunion: The Movement” is going down at The Downtown Cultural Arts Center, located at 401 North Howard Street. Admission is $10 at the door, and doors open at 8 p.m. And just as one would expect, the Organic Soul All Stars will be in the house performing, the house band will be in place, and the incomparable Olu Butterfly Woods will be at the helm, steering the night into whatever creative madness ensues.
The evening will include libations, food and vendors. And of course, the night will do what it has always done — highlight, spotlight and showcase all kinds of B-more talent. It’s always a fun time so come out and enjoy the festivities!
