One of the city’s premiere venues for independent artists was the now-defunct Organic Soul Tuesdays. Hosted by the enigmatically funky Olu Butterfly Woods and originally housed in the underground recesses of 218 North Saratoga Street (how appropriate), OST served this area’s performance arts scene well, presenting all kinds of talent from singers to poets to rappers and more, all backed up by a collective of stellar musicians who could accompany anyone at anytime and make them a thousand times better, even if they sucked. OST spent its last few years of existence at Eden’s Lounge, and the list of performers who graced its stage reads like a who’s who of Baltimore’s stars.
Though OST closed its doors a little over a year ago with one last event at its original location, it has not been forgotten by anyone. For one night, OST will return, but with a twist. OST will meet DC tomorrow night when it takes over The Up and Up Open Mic Series at LIV Nightclub, located at 2001 11th Street NW in our nation’s capital. This very special edition is not to be missed.
Admission is free before 8 p.m., $10 after, and co-hosts Olu Butterfly and super-soulful crooner JSoul will oversee the festivities. The house band will be in place (it wouldn’t be OST without them of course), and there will be food and drink specials. If even one or two of OST’s “All Stars” are in the house to perform it will be a great show, but I’m certain there will be more than a few, so the show will be amazing I promise you. Check out the Facebook event page for details.
