I like to do things outside the norm as often as possible, and I encourage others to do the same. In that spirit, you should check out “From Niggas To Gods”. The event, besides the controversial title, is being presented by media personality Civ Jones, and is billed as an “Afro-futurist” event where you are encouraged to explore the idea of what your “God-self” is, and (if they dare!) express it in their attire.
The event will include a beat showcase from Moor Mother Goddess, performances from Yo Slick, Eze Jackson, Greenspan, Voice, Jamal Loving AKA Blaqstarr, and Lotus Song and The Black Light Asylum. In addition to the performances, there will be a large scale interactive art installation by BlackShesus and a bevy of original art by Cleatress. DJ Shawn Smallwood will provide the music.
Doors open at 7 p.m at 1400 Warner Street (near the Paradox). Admission is only $10. For more details you can click here
You can also check out the interview Speakerbox Magazine (in conjunction with Dubscience Films) did with Civ below. She talks about the event along with how she came to be one of this city’s fixtures in media.
